We passionately appreciate the South African Boerboel and want to share this breed with the world! We know the world needs more Boerboels and our goal is to develop quality dogs through selective breeding with our dogs and with working with other trusted breeders.
We are not in this to try to make a fortune breeding Boerboels - we have bred other types of dogs and know breeding is not a money-making career, it is a passion. Plus, we do not run a kennel, we have family dogs that we breed. We know we cannot have family pets and mass produce puppies at the same time. People already question the size of the pack of dogs running around our property, but we love each and every one of them as a member of our very large family (we already had a large "pack" of kids before the dogs that many people questioned)!
Our History With the Breed
Because of some situations in the neighborhood, we found ourselves in need of a guard dog and started looking around. We researched many breeds but could not find a dog that could protect us, and still be able to handle the frequent visitors to our home, and our kids climbing all over them. We heard too many horror stories of guard dogs turning on family members. And then when we discovered the South African Boerboel! We knew this was the breed was the right dog for us. And then we got our first one and were totally in love! We added another one, and we were hooked for good! We socialize our dogs by going to farmers markets and other community events, but we cannot walk more than a few feet without someone stopping us to ask what kind of dog we have and where we got it. At some point, we entered the crazy world of "we gotta share our love for these dogs." Friends and family started putting in orders for puppies, so we decided to breed our dogs. It has all steamrolled form there, and Thunder Boerboels is the fulfillment of our dream. We truly hope you come to love these dogs as much as we do and add one to your family!
